5 Jul
Summary
- Storm damage is heavily concentrated in Wards 4 and 6.
- Two parks experienced significant flooding and trail closures.
- Fireworks show rescheduled to July 10 due to storm conditions.

The city of Aurora is actively engaged in cleanup operations after multiple rounds of severe storms struck the region on Thursday and Friday. Public Works and Street Maintenance crews are conducting extensive sweeps, with the most significant damage reported in Wards 4 and 6. Efforts include clearing debris from rights-of-way and coordinating with ComEd for power restoration, which is crucial for making additional work areas safe. Residents are encouraged to report downed branches and limbs using the myAurora 311 app or website.
The Fox Valley Park District has also reported extensive damage, including significant flooding at the dog park at Stuart Sports Complex in Montgomery. The Gilman Trail is currently impassable and closed near the Edgelawn Avenue east trailhead due to flooding between Terry Avenue and Edgelawn. Numerous trees across the park district have been downed or damaged by lightning and wind, particularly in the western parts of Aurora and Montgomery along the Fox River corridor. The park district is utilizing the See.Click.Fix app or email to fvpd@fvpd.net for damage reports.
Due to the ongoing storm impacts and the high probability of further thunderstorms, the city of Aurora made the decision to reschedule its July 3 fireworks display. The event, originally planned for RiverEdge Park and McCullough Park, is now set for Friday, July 10. City officials emphasized that visitor safety is the top priority, especially with parts of the city still recovering and experiencing power outages.
