Search and rescue operations are actively seeking Sandarsh Krishna, a 26-year-old computer science master's student at Arizona State University, who vanished during a trip to the Grand Canyon. Krishna was last in contact with family on April 27, informing them of his travel to Las Vegas with a stop at the Grand Canyon's South Rim. He was expected back in Arizona for final exams and a job interview but failed to return.
His last confirmed location was along the Rim Trail off Hermit Road, between Bright Angel Lodge and Mohave Point, during the late hours of April 27 and early morning of April 28. Investigators believe Krishna, who reportedly did not have a vehicle, may have used a rideshare or taxi. His cell phone data has remained static since his disappearance, according to his family.
Over 30 search and rescue personnel are utilizing various methods, including aerial reconnaissance and drone operations, to cover the challenging landscape. Notably, Krishna's black backpack was discovered at the Bright Angel Lodge early on April 28. Rangers are now seeking to identify the person who returned the backpack, emphasizing that this individual is not a suspect but may possess crucial information.
Krishna, originally from India, had moved to Arizona in 2024 to pursue his master's degree and was scheduled to graduate on May 9. His family describes him as a bright, kind individual with a strong connection to them. Anyone with information regarding Krishna's whereabouts between April 27 and April 28 is urged to contact the National Park Service tip line.
