A charity dedicated to supporting families experiencing baby loss has suffered substantial damage due to a suspected arson attack. The incident occurred at the Forever Stars facility in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, where a skip fire is believed to have been deliberately started against the building. The blaze caused extensive exterior charring and smoke damage inside, melting windows and disrupting essential services like power, internet, and phone lines. This damage has forced the charity to close its doors temporarily, with repairs expected to begin soon.
The disruption particularly impacts the charity's ability to provide vital support, including counselling rooms and a playroom for children who have lost siblings. These services are critical for families navigating profound grief. The damage to the playroom is a significant concern, as any pause in treatment can negatively affect children undergoing therapy. The charity also serves as a drop-in centre for individuals seeking support.
In the wake of the incident, the community has rallied around Forever Stars, offering a significant number of volunteer hours for cleanup and repairs. Offers of assistance have poured in, demonstrating strong public support for the charity's work. Volunteers are expected to begin cleaning walls and addressing immediate damage, with hopes for professional help for specialized repairs such as window and air conditioning systems.
