Army veteran Stephen Mullis, 37, died last year in a motorbike crash after his Harley-Davidson's side stand scraped along the tarmac. The incident occurred on March 30, 2025, when the side stand dropped from its correct position, causing Mr. Mullis to lose control and collide with a tree. He had served for 14 years, rising to Sergeant and completing tours in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Northern Ireland.
An inquest at Portsmouth Coroners Court heard that Mr. Mullis was riding his new Harley-Davidson Sportster S when the malfunction happened. Forensic evidence indicated 14-meter scuffs on the road from the scraping side stand. A toxicology report revealed no alcohol or drugs in his system. Motorist Karol Lisicki witnessed the crash and described Mr. Mullis as riding in a safe and controlled manner.
Friends and family described Mr. Mullis as a kind, respected, and well-loved husband, father, brother, and son, known for his loyalty and sense of humour. The Royal British Legion Riders Branch attended his funeral to honor his passion for motorcycles. The cause of the side stand dropping remains unclear.
