16 Aug
Summary
- A cyclist was swept under a flooded bridge by raging monsoon waters.
- A rescuer was also caught in the current but managed to survive.
- Two individuals were hospitalized in stable condition after the rescue.

During recent monsoon storms in Pima County, Arizona, a dangerous attempt to cross a flooded wash nearly resulted in tragedy. A 20-year-old female cyclist was attempting to navigate a bridge over Sabino Canyon when powerful, fast-moving floodwaters surged.
The torrent swept the woman and her bicycle beneath the bridge, trapping her in a hazardous situation. Eyewitness video captured the harrowing moments as she struggled to free herself before being pulled under the churning water.
Another woman bravely intervened to help, but she too was caught by the intense current and swept approximately 100 feet downstream. Both victims were eventually rescued by good Samaritans.
The cyclist was unresponsive and required CPR before regaining consciousness. She and the rescuer were transported to a local hospital and reported to be in stable condition.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stressed the extreme peril, stating, "Never attempt to cross flooded washes, whether on a bike, in a vehicle, or on foot." He underscored that fast-moving water poses a significant risk to both individuals and first responders.
