Summary
- A fire destroyed Camden Westwood apartments, leaving about 70 residents homeless.
- First responders from multiple towns saved lives in a challenging, fast-moving blaze.
- Donations and temporary housing are being arranged for displaced residents.

A catastrophic fire on Monday evening has rendered the Camden Westwood apartment building a total loss, displacing around 70 residents. Fire officials confirmed that despite the severe damage, no lives were lost in the blaze, a fact described as miraculous given the fire's rapid spread. The Morrisville Fire Department, with mutual aid from Cary and Apex fire departments, deployed extensive resources to combat the flames.
The fire reportedly originated on a first-floor balcony and was exacerbated by high winds, allowing it to quickly engulf the structure by spreading through the attic space. First responders treated at least six individuals for smoke-related injuries, with one transported to UNC Hospital for burn treatment. The investigation into the exact cause of the fire is ongoing.
Camden, the property management company, expressed deep gratitude for the emergency response and is focusing on the well-being of affected residents. Plans are in motion to relocate residents to available apartments within Camden Westwood and other neighboring Camden communities. The company is also initiating donation drives and providing financial assistance to those impacted. The Red Cross is also providing support to the displaced individuals.
