A serious ammonia gas leak occurred at a private seafood processing unit in Manjangaranai, near Periyapalayam, resulting in the deaths of seven women. The incident took place on Sunday, deeply impacting the local community.
Following the leak, 67 affected workers were swiftly transported to local medical facilities. District Collector S Kavitha reported that 46 workers are receiving treatment at Vels Hospital, while 21 are at Venkateshwara Hospital. Nine critically ill patients have been transferred to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai for advanced care.
