A devastating road accident occurred late Saturday on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, claiming the life of an ambulance driver and critically injuring four passengers. The ambulance, en route back to Varanasi after dropping off a patient in Haryana, collided with a container truck at kilometre 192 in the Tirwa Kotwali area.
Emergency services and expressway rescue teams responded promptly to the scene. The driver, identified as Rajesh Singh from Ghazipur district, was declared dead on arrival and his body was sent for postmortem. The injured passengers, including pharmacist Amit Chandra Verma and Sapna along with her children Sujata and Ritesh, were transported to the Government Medical College for immediate medical attention.
Initial police reports indicate that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle after potentially dozing off, a common risk associated with prolonged driving shifts. Further investigations are underway to ascertain the precise cause of the accident.
