Summary

- The driver was following GPS directions to Foulness Island.
- The Broomway is a treacherous path known as 'Britain's deadliest'.

An Amazon delivery van was discovered abandoned at sea after its driver became stranded on The Broomway, a notorious tidal causeway in Great Wakering, Essex. The incident occurred on the evening of February 14, when the driver, attempting to reach Foulness Island via GPS, drove onto the mudflats of the causeway.
The driver safely exited the vehicle and reported the situation to Amazon. The company arranged for a local farmer to remove the van the following day, February 15. HM Coastguard Southend was initially scrambled to the scene due to concerns about potential pollution and occupant safety.
Upon confirmation that the driver was safe and the vehicle would be removed, Coastguard officers were stood down. The Broomway, a six-mile path into the Thames Estuary, is known for its extreme danger and has earned the grim nickname 'Doomway,' with an estimated 100 people having died there over the centuries. Vehicle use is strongly discouraged on this Ministry of Defence-owned route.
