Deadly Amazon Cargo Jet Crash: Speed and Delay
2 Oct
Summary
- Plane landed nearly a mile past threshold at excessive speed.
- Captain initiated abort late, with only 930 feet of runway left.
- Five people died when the plane crashed and caught fire.

An Amazon Air cargo plane's catastrophic runway overrun at Miami International Airport on September 6, 2026, is being detailed by the NTSB. The Boeing 767 landed approximately three-quarters of a mile past the runway threshold, traveling at excessive speed.
Investigators revealed the captain, who had limited experience in the Boeing 767, was flying the aircraft and did not consistently respond to the first officer's repeated speed warnings. The plane crossed the runway threshold at over 200 mph and touched down significantly beyond the ideal point.
Attempts to abort the landing with a go-around were initiated with less than 1,000 feet of runway remaining. The plane ultimately overran the runway, striking vehicles and erupting in flames, resulting in five fatalities and three serious injuries.
