Family Sues Airbnb After Tragic Mexico City Deaths
27 Mar
Summary
- Two El Paso siblings died in Mexico City Airbnb rental.
- Lawsuit claims rental lacked proper ventilation and CO detector.
- Family accuses Airbnb of failing to disclose safety risks.

The family of two El Paso siblings, Hugo and Laura Morales, has initiated a wrongful death lawsuit against Airbnb following their deaths in Mexico City. The siblings reportedly died in February 2025 after checking into an Airbnb rental for a concert.
According to the lawsuit, carbon monoxide rapidly filled the apartment after Hugo Morales turned on the hot water. The family alleges the unit lacked adequate ventilation and a functioning carbon monoxide detector, leading to their deaths overnight.
The lawsuit accuses Airbnb of failing to disclose the presence of a fuel-burning water heater and not warning guests about carbon monoxide poisoning risks. It further claims the company neglected to enforce basic safety measures, despite awareness of similar past incidents.
This legal action follows the discovery of the siblings unconscious on February 25, 2025, after police responded to a call at the rental property. While initial findings suggested a possible gas leak, with a stove burner reportedly left slightly open, family members believe carbon monoxide poisoning was the cause. Officials have not publicly confirmed the definitive cause of death.
