Horses Halt Traffic on A3
3 Nov
Summary
- Horses escaped from a field, causing a road closure.
- A separate three-vehicle collision occurred during the incident.
- A driving instructor used his van to shield a horse from traffic.
A temporary closure was implemented on the A3 southbound carriageway in Surrey on Tuesday morning due to horses loose on the road near Wisley. The incident began around 7:35 AM GMT when police received reports of escaped animals from a nearby field. These horses were safely corralled and moved to a service station.
During the disruption caused by the loose horses, a separate three-vehicle collision occurred on the A3. Emergency services, including ambulance and fire crews, attended the scene. One individual sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Witnesses described the chaotic scene, with one driving instructor recounting how he used his van to protect a horse galloping in the road. He, along with a recovery truck driver, managed to guide the frightened animal to safety until police arrived. The road has since reopened.
