Summary
- Nine Indian fishers were rescued by a Vietnam-flagged ship.
- A fishing boat named St Joseph collided with another ship.
- Rescued fishers were taken to Government Medical College for care.

An Indian Coast Guard vessel, Anagh, successfully rendezvoused with the Vietnam-flagged merchant ship MS Solis early on March 8, 2026. The operation involved the evacuation of nine Indian fishermen who had been rescued by the merchant vessel's crew following a maritime collision that occurred on March 7, 2026.
The fishing boat, identified as St Joseph, had departed from Shakthikulangara Harbour in Kollam on March 6, 2026, carrying eleven individuals—five from Tamil Nadu and six from West Bengal. The collision happened early on March 7, 2026, when the fishing boat was anchored in what was believed to be a busy international shipping lane off Colachel, Tamil Nadu.
The impact of the collision was severe, leading to the complete destruction of the St Joseph. The crew of MS Solis launched a lifeboat and managed to rescue nine of the eleven fishermen from the choppy waters. Tragically, two fishermen are still reported missing following the incident.
Upon arrival at Vizhinjam harbour in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, the rescued fishermen were immediately attended to by emergency responders. They were promptly transported to the Government Medical College for urgent medical attention, as at least two of the fishermen had suffered serious injuries during the collision.
