Mhada Races Against Monsoon to Evacuate 82 Dangerous Structures
30 May
Summary
- 82 buildings in Mumbai's island city are highly dangerous.
- 2,736 people live in these unsafe structures.
- Mhada has installed a 24/7 control room for distress calls.

Mhada's pre-monsoon survey has identified 82 buildings in Mumbai's island city as critically dangerous, with 43 of these structures being repeat offenders from the previous year.
These hazardous buildings are located across several areas including Bomanji Lane, Bora Bazaar, Samuel Street, Sheikh Memon Road, Kalbadevi, and other parts of Girgaum, Mazgaon, and Dadar-Shivaji Park. A significant population of 2,736 individuals, comprising 2,256 residential and 480 non-residential occupants, reside within these dilapidated structures.
Mhada has issued notices to residents, leading to some vacating premises voluntarily and others being relocated to transit camps. For those who have not yet complied, eviction notices have been served, and the process of vacating these unsafe buildings is actively in progress. A dedicated 24/7 control room has been established in Tardeo to promptly address any distress calls from affected inhabitants.
