On Monday, October 28, 2025, an 81-year-old woman, Usha Kherani, tragically lost her life in a bus accident in Mulund (W), Mumbai. Kherani was walking towards the Bileshwar Mahadev Temple around 10:20 am when a BEST bus struck her near the 5th Road, opposite Aarey Milk Center.
The incident left Kherani with severe injuries to her head, left hand, and leg. Her 59-year-old son, Dhiren Kherani, filed a complaint stating that he was informed of the accident by a family friend. Kherani was immediately rushed to Agarwal Hospital in Mulund, where doctors declared her dead at 10:50 am.
The police have taken the bus driver, Aniket Ambre, into custody and seized the vehicle. A case has been registered against Ambre for rash and negligent driving under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
This tragic incident has once again highlighted the need for stricter safety measures and driver accountability on Mumbai's roads, especially in areas with high pedestrian traffic.
