Deadly Ghat Accident: Speeding Bus topples, 2 Dead

A tragic accident occurred on the Mumbai-Goa Highway (NH-66) near Nagothane early Friday morning when a private bus, en route to Goa with employees of a Panvel-based firm, overturned. The incident happened in the Sukeli Khind section, resulting in the deaths of at least two passengers and critically injuring 9-10 others.
According to survivors and police, the driver was speeding and failed to negotiate a sharp uphill bend. The bus, carrying 45 employees for a company vacation, toppled around 2:30 AM. Survivors reported the driver ignored repeated requests to slow down, even on dangerous curves.
Rescue operations were launched immediately by police and the fire brigade. The injured were rushed to several hospitals, including Nagothane primary health centre, Roha and Alibag sub-district hospitals, and MGM Medical College and Hospital in Kamothe. Critically injured passengers were later transferred to Kalamboli for advanced care.
The bus driver, identified as Hemant Patil, has been booked under sections related to rash driving and causing death by negligence. An investigation is underway, examining the driver's conduct, vehicle condition, and road geometry. Authorities are also investigating if the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
