The valuable seafood shipment, with an estimated worth of €60,000, was destined for shops and restaurants in Portugal.
The road between Quigley's Point and Moville was significantly impacted by the spill. It remained closed for an extensive 18-hour period to facilitate a large-scale recovery operation. This operation involved specialized equipment, including night lights and a hydraulic crane, to manage the unusual situation.
The driver of the lorry involved in the accident sustained no injuries. The recovery operation aimed to salvage as many of the escaped crustaceans as possible following the unusual roadside event in County Donegal.
