15 Migrant Bodies Wash Ashore in Libya

Tragic discoveries were made along the Libyan coast recently, with the bodies of at least 15 migrants washing ashore in Khumas, a city situated approximately 118 km east of the capital, Tripoli. Medics from the Emergency Medicine and Support Centre, operating under the health ministry, confirmed the grim find. Following protocol, all discovered bodies have been buried. The centre shared poignant images on social media, depicting their personnel in protective gear handling the bodies and during burial proceedings.

Libya has unfortunately become a significant transit point for migrants seeking refuge from conflict and poverty in sub-Saharan Africa. Since the 2011 uprising, hundreds of thousands have used the North African nation as a stepping stone. This often involves braving extremely dangerous journeys across the desert or the perilous Mediterranean Sea in pursuit of a better life.
