On August 4th, 2025, two devastating cloudbursts struck the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, triggering deadly flash floods that have left the region in a state of crisis. The cloudbursts hit the villages of Dharali and Sukhi, causing widespread destruction and leaving four people dead and over 50 still missing.
Bone-chilling visuals from the affected areas show flattened homes, buried roads, and panicked villagers running for their lives as the raging floodwaters swept through the region. Around 8 to 10 Army soldiers are also reported missing from a camp near Harsil.
Despite the ongoing emergency, the Indian Army's Ibex Brigade, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other agencies have launched intense rescue and relief operations. Over 400 personnel have been deployed to the affected areas, and eight villages have been cut off due to the disaster.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in the region, further complicating the situation. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are closely monitoring the developments and have assured full support for the rescue and relief efforts.
