Last month, a devastating accident occurred in Uttar Pradesh when a tractor-trolley carrying a group of pilgrims overturned, resulting in the tragic loss of 10 lives and leaving 43 others injured. The incident took place around 2:10 AM as the pilgrims were traveling from Rafatpur village in Kasganj district to Jaharpeer in Rajasthan.
According to the authorities, the tractor-trolley had been illegally modified with two decks to accommodate the large group of 61 passengers, despite a ban on using such vehicles for passenger transport in the state. The canter truck hit the tractor-trolley from behind, causing it to overturn.
The deceased have been identified as the tractor driver, EU Babu, and nine other individuals from Kasganj district. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, with 10 taken to Aligarh Medical College, 10 to Bulandshahr district hospital, and 23 to Kailash Hospital in Khurja. By the afternoon, 18 had been discharged after receiving primary treatment, while 10 others sustained minor injuries.
District officials, including the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police, visited the accident site and later met with the injured at the hospitals. The truck involved in the crash, which was registered in Haryana, has been impounded, and legal proceedings have been initiated, though the driver remains at large. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, and further action will be taken as the probe progresses.
