On Monday, a vegetation fire erupted in the Santa Rosa Mountains of Riverside County, California, quickly growing to consume 1,200 acres by nightfall. The blaze, dubbed the Rosa fire, was reported around 12:30 p.m. on Highway 74 east of the Santa Rosa Truck Trail, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
In response to the rapidly spreading fire, evacuation orders were issued for households in the communities of Ribbonwood, Pinyon Pines, and Alpine Village, while evacuation warnings were put in place for Pinyon Crest. Care and reception centers, as well as animal evacuation sites, were established to assist affected residents.
Firefighting efforts are ongoing, with 300 personnel deployed to the incident. The blaze is currently burning at a moderate rate of spread and remains 0% contained as of Monday night. In addition to the Rosa fire, smoke from other wildfires in the region has prompted air quality advisories for the Coachella Valley and parts of the Santa Clarita Valley, urging residents to limit outdoor activities.
