As of August 8, 2025, a group of 24 friends from Awasari Khurd village near Pune, Maharashtra, have gone missing after being caught in the deadly landslides and flash floods in Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has stated that it is in constant touch with the Uttarakhand administration to locate and rescue the 151 tourists from the state who were stranded in the Dharali area due to the natural disaster. So far, 120 of these tourists have been contacted and are reported to be safe at an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) camp.
The state's disaster control room is coordinating with various agencies, including the National Emergency Response Centre and Uttarakhand's State Disaster Management Authority, to bring back the remaining tourists, either by rail or air transport. Authorities are working tirelessly to account for and safely return all the Maharashtra visitors affected by this tragic incident in the northern state.
