Pregnant Passenger's Medical Emergency Diverts Delta Flight to Ohio
22 Aug
Summary
- Delta flight from New York to San Francisco diverted to Ohio
- Pregnant passenger experienced contractions during the flight
- Crew followed procedures to safely land the plane and provide medical assistance

On August 3rd, 2025, a Delta Airlines flight from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport to San Francisco International Airport encountered an unexpected situation. About an hour into the journey, the crew of Flight 668, a Boeing 757, declared a medical emergency after a pregnant passenger started experiencing contractions.
The pilot immediately requested priority clearance to land at John Glenn Columbus International Airport in Ohio, and the plane touched down safely at 8:45 a.m. Paramedics were standing by at the gate to provide medical assistance to the passenger.
According to a passenger who was on the flight, the situation was "pretty nuts." Another traveler helped the pregnant woman until the paramedics took over. The crew also obtained the passenger's full name and attempted to upgrade her, but she declined.
The aircraft remained on the ground in Columbus for approximately 90 minutes before continuing its journey to San Francisco, where it landed around two hours behind schedule. The baby was not delivered on the plane.
Delta Airlines does not impose restrictions on pregnant passengers traveling in their final weeks, nor do they require a doctor's note. However, the airline advises women to check with their healthcare providers before flying in the later stages of pregnancy.
This incident comes after a similar event earlier this year, where a baby was born on a Ryanair flight en route to Spain, leading to an emergency landing in France.
