As the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks approaches on September 11, 2025, communities across the Lower Hudson Valley are preparing to gather and honor the memory of the 2,966 people who lost their lives that tragic day. Many of the victims were friends, family members, and neighbors of those living in the region.
Over the years, the list of those remembered has grown to include numerous first responders who have since developed life-threatening illnesses following their heroic rescue efforts at Ground Zero in the days and months after the attacks. These brave individuals have been added to the solemn roll call of names read at the annual memorial services.
Westchester County is hosting a two-day event to specifically commemorate the 81 residents of the county who perished in the 9/11 tragedy, as well as those who have succumbed to 9/11-related illnesses. The first event will be an Interfaith Prayer Vigil on September 10th, followed by a memorial service and reading of the victims' names on September 11th. Local officials have invited family members of the victims to participate in these events.
