Coastal Andhra Pradesh on Alert as Depression Nears
18 Aug
Summary
- Coastal districts warned of adverse weather conditions
- Fishermen advised not to venture into the sea
- Isolated heavy rains and rising flood levels expected

On August 18, 2025, the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) issued a warning to people in the state's north coastal districts to be cautious on Tuesday, August 19, due to adverse weather conditions caused by a depression in the Bay of Bengal.
The well-marked low-pressure area over the sea had concentrated into a depression on Monday, August 18, and was expected to cross the coast between south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh by Tuesday afternoon. Strong winds gusting to 40-60 km/h were likely to hit the coast as the weather system crossed the area. Fisherfolk have been advised not to venture into the sea until further notice.
Flood levels in rivers were rising due to rainfall in the catchments. As of Monday evening, Maredumilli in Alluri Seetharama Raju district had recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 73 mm, and many parts of Srikakulam district had recorded more than 50 mm of rainfall. The rainfall was expected to increase as the depression crossed the coast from Monday night to Tuesday afternoon.
