30 Aug
Summary
- Suspect Michael Paul Brown accused of killing 4 at a bar in Anaconda, Montana
- Brown evaded authorities for a week before being apprehended
- Suspect had a history of mental illness, according to his niece

On August 1, a deadly shooting occurred at The Owl Bar in Anaconda, Montana, leaving four people dead. The suspect, 45-year-old Michael Paul Brown, lived next door to the bar and is now facing four counts of murder.
Authorities have not yet commented on a potential motive for the killings. However, Brown's niece has stated that he has long struggled with mental illness. Following the shooting, Brown stole a truck and fled the scene, eventually ditching the vehicle a few miles outside of town.
For the next week, Brown hid in the nearby forests, evading capture as hundreds of law enforcement officers searched the area. Helicopters and drones circled overhead, while officers and dogs scoured the ground, but Brown managed to stay one step ahead. However, the sheer number of officers searching for him eventually flushed him out into a sparsely populated area near a state highway, where he was apprehended on August 8.
Investigators are now examining whether Brown had any contact with individuals or property owners who may have assisted him during his time on the run. He is currently being held on $2 million bail and is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on September 3.
