Supreme Court Cancels Bail for Bollywood Star in Shocking Murder Case
14 Aug
Summary
- Supreme Court overturns high court's bail grant to actor Darshan
- Darshan accused of abducting, torturing, and killing fan Renukaswamy
- Forensic evidence cited as reason for bail cancellation

On August 14, 2025, the Supreme Court of India made a significant ruling by revoking the bail granted to Bollywood actor Darshan in the Renukaswamy murder case. The court's decision came in response to an appeal filed by the Karnataka government challenging the High Court's December 2024 order that had granted bail to Darshan and his co-accused.
The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices J.B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan, observed that the High Court's previous order "suffers from serious infirmities" and was a "mechanical exercise" rather than a thorough examination of the case. The court noted that the well-founded allegations against Darshan, coupled with forensic evidence, warranted the cancellation of his bail.
Darshan, along with actress Pavithra Gowda and several others, stands accused of abducting and torturing 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan who allegedly sent obscene messages to Gowda. According to the police, the victim was confined in a shed in Bengaluru for three days in June 2024, subjected to torture, and later found dead in a drain.
The Supreme Court's ruling underscores the gravity of the case and the importance of a thorough judicial process. The court has now directed the trial court to be the appropriate forum to examine the allegations and the available evidence, ensuring a fair and impartial outcome.
