In a tragic case that gained national attention, Megan Boswell, 24, was sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 33 years for the murder of her 15-month-old daughter Evelyn Mae Boswell. The sentencing took place on September 5, 2025, in Sullivan County, Tennessee.
Boswell was convicted on February 13, 2025, of first-degree murder, child abuse, neglect, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse, and making false police reports. The judge, Jim Goodwin, added the consecutive sentences due to the "brutality of the crime" and deemed Boswell a "dangerous offender" who needed to be kept away from society even in old age.
Evelyn was first reported missing by her grandfather in February 2020, sparking a nationwide search. Boswell's changing stories and the eventual discovery of Evelyn's body in a shed on the family's property in March 2020 led to the charges against her. The Sullivan County grand jury indicted Boswell in August 2020 on 19 counts related to Evelyn's death, which was determined to have occurred around December 2019.
Despite her conviction, Boswell maintained her innocence during the sentencing hearing, claiming she did not receive a fair trial and would have been acquitted. However, the judge dismissed her claims, sentencing her to life in prison with no possibility of parole.
