Manhunt Continues for Fugitive Father Accused of Killing Daughters
26 Aug
Summary
- Nearly 100 investigators searching remote campground where daughters were found dead
- Suspect, a military veteran, still not located after 3 months
- Authorities have no evidence if suspect is alive or dead

In a tragic and ongoing case, authorities in Washington State have been searching for a military veteran accused of killing his three young daughters. Nearly three months after the incident, the suspect, Travis Decker, has still not been found.
On August 26, 2025, investigators returned to the remote campground where Decker's abandoned pickup truck was discovered near the bodies of his three daughters, aged 5, 8, and 9. The search effort, coordinated by the FBI's Seattle field office, involves nearly 100 law enforcement personnel, including intelligence analysts, evidence specialists, and special agents with expertise in child abduction cases and forensic analysis.
According to Chelan County Sheriff Michael Morrison, this "targeted effort" will cover the rugged U.S. Forest Service land surrounding the Rock Island Campground, located approximately 150 miles east of Seattle. While the authorities have not disclosed what they are specifically looking for, Morrison emphasized that they will not stop until they have exhausted every possible avenue to find Decker and bring closure to this heartbreaking case.
Decker, a 33-year-old U.S. Army veteran described as an avid outdoorsman, has been the subject of a manhunt since May 30, when his ex-wife reported that he did not return their daughters after a planned visit. The girls were found dead at the campground on June 2, with plastic bags over their heads, and an autopsy determined that they died of suffocation.
Authorities have only spotted Decker once, in the Blewitt Pass area southeast of the campground, and a reported sighting in Idaho turned out to be someone else. The motive for the killings remains unclear, but the affidavit indicates that Decker had refused to sign a parenting plan that would have required him to seek mental health and domestic violence-anger management treatment.
As the search continues, the community and the victims' family members await answers and closure in this tragic case.
