Loving Father Figure Murders Teenage Niece in Cocaine-Fueled Rampage

On July 18, 2024, a horrific family tragedy unfolded in the Riverside area north of Edmonton. 17-year-old Jaeden Chaisson was brutally stabbed to death by her aunt's common-law partner, 28-year-old Randall, in their townhouse. Jaeden's 13-year-old cousin, Brooklyn Janes, was also severely injured in the attack.

Prior to the incident, Randall had been a loving spouse to Kayla Chaisson and a caring father figure to Brooklyn. However, on the day of the attack, Randall had purchased and consumed cocaine before returning home. He then launched a violent assault, stabbing Jaeden 21 times in the head, neck, chest, and arms as she screamed for him to stop.

Brooklyn, who was upstairs on the phone, heard her cousin's cries and tried to hold her bedroom door shut, but Randall forced his way in. He then proceeded to stab, punch, kick, and throw the 13-year-old, inflicting at least 12 stab wounds. Brooklyn eventually pretended to be dead, and Randall fled the scene.

Jaeden was found collapsed on the front lawn, severely injured, and rushed to the hospital, but she succumbed to her wounds two days later. Brooklyn was discharged the following day, her physical injuries less severe than her cousin's.

Randall turned himself in to the police the day Jaeden died. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 12 years, as well as a concurrent 7-year sentence for the attack on Brooklyn. The community has been left devastated by this tragic loss of life and the shocking betrayal of trust.
