On August 2, 2025, the district and sessions court in Shillong, Meghalaya extended the judicial custody of Sonam Raghuvanshi and her 'lover' Raj Kushwaha, the prime accused in the murder of Sonam's husband Raja Raghuvanshi, by an additional 14 days. The newly-married couple from Indore had been on a honeymoon trip to Sohra in May 2025 when Raja was killed by assailants brought in from outside the state at Sonam's request.
Earlier, on July 31, 2025, the court had also extended the judicial remand of three other accused - Akash Rajput, Anand Kurmi, and Vishal Chauhan - for 14 more days. The proceedings were conducted via video-conferencing, with assistant public prosecutor Tushar Chanda representing the case.
The Meghalaya Police's special investigation team has been probing the murder, which has shocked the local community. Authorities are working to uncover the full details and motives behind this tragic incident that cut short the newlyweds' honeymoon.
