Gunman Kills 4, Including NYPD Officer, in Midtown Manhattan Attack

On Monday evening, a gunman opened fire in the lobby of a 44-story office building in Midtown Manhattan, killing four people, including an off-duty New York City police officer. The shooter, identified as a 27-year-old man from Las Vegas, pulled up in a black BMW, entered the building, and immediately opened fire on the police officer working security detail. He then shot and killed two other people in the lobby before making his way to the 33rd floor, where he fatally shot a woman in the office of the building's owners, Rudin Management, before taking his own life.

The incident, which occurred around 6:28 pm during the busy rush hour, set off chaotic scenes in the area, with the building housing several high-profile companies like Blackstone and the National Football League. Authorities say the gunman had a documented history of mental health issues and was licensed to carry a gun in Nevada, but his exact motives remain unclear. The off-duty NYPD officer who was killed, a 36-year-old immigrant from Bangladesh, was described as a hero who was doing the job he was asked to do.
