On July 28, a shooting incident occurred in a Midtown Manhattan skyscraper that houses the NFL headquarters and offices of several major financial firms, including hedge fund giant Blackstone. A gunman opened fire inside the building, injuring multiple people before being "neutralized" by police.
According to initial reports, one New York Police Department officer was killed, and two civilians were struck by gunfire. The condition and extent of the civilians' injuries were not immediately known. New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed that there were "multiple injuries" in the shooting.
The suspect, a 27-year-old man from Las Vegas, was believed to have died from a self-inflicted injury. Police shared a photo of the suspect entering the building with a rifle, but preliminary checks did not reveal a significant criminal history.
The skyscraper at 345 Park Avenue houses a number of financial firms, as well as the NFL headquarters. A large police presence converged on the area, and the FBI also responded to provide support at the scene.
