Deadly Shooting Leaves One Dead, One Injured in South Philadelphia

On the night of August 18th, 2025, a tragic shooting occurred in South Philadelphia, leaving one man dead and another injured. According to the police, officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots and a shooting on the 600 block of Mountain Street after 11:30 pm.
When they arrived at the scene, the officers found two men with gunshot wounds. A 37-year-old man was pronounced dead at the hospital at 12:12 am, having been shot in the back and buttocks. A 23-year-old man was also taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his shoulder and is listed in stable condition.
Investigators discovered over 30 spent shell casings from a semi-automatic weapon or weapons at the crime scene, all on the sidewalk of Mountain Street. Three parked cars were also hit by the gunfire. A semi-automatic handgun was found at the scene, but it is unclear who it belonged to.
The Homicide Unit is now leading the investigation, and they are hopeful that the numerous surveillance cameras in the area may have captured footage that could provide valuable clues. As of now, there is no description of the shooter or shooters, and no motive has been established.
