Summary
- Police constable arrested for abducting migrant workers
- Racket involved posing as officials to extort money
- Victims included pourakarmikas and ragpickers

On Tuesday, the Organised Crime Wing of the Central Crime Branch arrested a police constable named Prashanth Navi, who was attached to the Internal Security Division (ISD). This arrest was part of an investigation into the abduction and extortion of migrant laborers.
The accused constable, Prashanth Navi, has been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023, including kidnapping and criminal intimidation. Authorities are currently investigating to determine the involvement of any other individuals in this case.
Earlier, the police had arrested Nasir Khan, a habitual offender with a history of multiple cases. Nasir Khan would pose as a police officer, allegedly abducting and extorting money from migrant laborers, threatening them with arrest. The racket came to light when a local activist, Faiz Akram Pasha, conducted a health awareness camp at the migrant colony in Varthur, and some victims approached him with their complaints, leading to a formal police complaint.
The investigation revealed that Nasir Khan had a fake police ID card and had roped in Prashanth Navi, the constable, to assist in the scheme. The duo, along with other associates, would raid the Labourers' Colony in Varthur, posing as officials from the ISD and Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). They would then abduct pourakarmikas, ragpickers, and other migrant workers, accusing them of being illegal immigrants and extorting money from them, threatening to arrest them.
