1 Aug
Summary
- Bryan Kohberger sentenced to life for murdering 4 Idaho students
- Moved to solitary confinement in maximum security prison
- Restrictions include 1 hour outdoor time, limited movement, and showers every other day

In a significant development, Bryan Kohberger, the man who pleaded guilty to the brutal murders of four University of Idaho students, has been moved into solitary confinement at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution near Kuna, Idaho. This move occurred on July 29, 2025, less than a week after Kohberger was handed four consecutive life sentences for the killings.
According to a spokesperson for the Idaho Department of Correction, Kohberger, now 30 years old, has been placed in the facility's J Block, which houses both inmates in long-term restrictive housing and those in the general population. Prisoners in long-term restrictive housing, like Kohberger, are confined to single-person cells and limited to just one hour of outdoor recreation per day. They are also restrained when moving around the prison and provided a shower every other day.
Despite the harsh conditions, Kohberger will still be able to attend religious services, communicate electronically with loved ones, and make commissary orders. The J Block also houses other high-profile inmates, including Chad Daybell, the husband of "Doomsday Mom" Lori Vallow, who was recently sentenced to death for his role in the murders of his first wife and Lori's children.

The relocation of Kohberger to this maximum-security facility underscores the gravity of his crimes and the need to ensure the safety and security of both the prison population and the public at large. As the nation continues to grapple with the tragic loss of the four young lives, this development serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who commit such heinous acts.
