Chowdhury had initially reported that her Padma Shri medal was among the stolen items, but she later clarified that the original medal is safe at her Kolkata home. However, a small souvenir given to her along with the Padma Shri award remains missing.
The West Bengal CID has launched an investigation into the theft, and several suspects have been detained for questioning. According to sources, the police were able to track down and arrest the thief after obtaining detailed information from one of the suspects.
Chowdhury has expressed her gratitude to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the police for their swift action, but she remains concerned about the missing items, including the small Padma Shri souvenir.
