In a disturbing case of abuse of trust, a Bronx charter school teacher has been accused of repeatedly raping one of his 13-year-old students. William Jones, 32, a seventh-grade math teacher at the American Dream Charter School, has been indicted on multiple charges, including rape, sexual misconduct, disseminating indecent material to minors, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities say that Jones, a Queens resident, raped the victim repeatedly in her home over the course of five weeks, from April 28 to June 2. The abuse came to light when the victim's older sister found them getting dressed together during the last incident on June 2. The victim's mother then searched her daughter's phone and discovered explicit text messages, photos, and videos, confirming that the sender was Jones.
"The defendant engaged in disturbing and predatory conduct, made worse by the fact that he is a schoolteacher entrusted with the care and safety of students," said Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark. "Exploitation of the young and vulnerable will not be tolerated."
Jones allegedly resigned from the school after becoming aware of the investigation. The case serves as a chilling reminder of the importance of protecting students and holding those in positions of trust accountable for their actions.
