On August 28, 2025, Yogendra Singh, a sewadaar at the Kalkaji Temple in New Delhi, tragically lost his life in a violent incident. Singh, who had been supporting his family on a monthly income of around ₹5,000 from the temple, was allegedly beaten by a group of men after a quarrel over the distribution of prasad.
According to the police, the altercation broke out when some visitors demanded more prasad, and Singh refused as it was already over. The group then allegedly dragged him outside and assaulted him with sticks, an incident captured on CCTV. Singh was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Singh's elder brother, Kaushal, who also works at a temple, expressed his grief, saying that despite the hardships, Singh was dedicated to providing an educated and respected life for his son and daughter. "He always said he only wanted his children to live an educated and respected life," Kaushal said, adding that the family's future has now been "shattered."
The tragic incident has left Singh's wife, Jaya, and their two children, Krishna and Pari, devastated. Kaushal noted that their elderly mother, who had been living with the brothers in turns, is now inconsolable. The community is in shock, and authorities have apprehended three suspects in connection with the incident.
