On Monday, the body of an ambulance driver was found under suspicious circumstances inside his vehicle outside the Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) in Lucknow. The deceased has been identified as Virendra Kumar Vishwakarma, a 42-year-old resident of Sitapur.
At the time of the incident, Virendra was driving an ambulance owned by Anil Kumar Valmiki, a resident of Amrai village in Chinhat. Anil recounted his last conversation with Virendra, which took place at 8:30 am on Monday. During the call, Virendra mentioned that he was stationed with the ambulance at Gate Number 8 of the Lohia Institute and requested Anil to transfer Rs 1,900 online, which was due to him.
Anil spoke to Virendra again around 9:30 am, during which Virendra assured him that the money would be transferred shortly. However, when the transfer did not occur for an extended period, Anil attempted to contact Virendra multiple times, but all his calls went unanswered. Concerned, Anil asked other ambulance drivers to check on Virendra's well-being. Upon investigation, the fellow drivers found Virendra unconscious inside his ambulance and immediately rushed him to the emergency department of the Lohia Institute, where doctors declared him dead.
The police have now sent Virendra's body for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of his death, which is currently under investigation.
