Heartbreak as Community Youth Hub Wrecked
10 Apr
Summary
- Children as young as six caused malicious vandalism at a youth hub.
- Donated items, including an ice hockey table, were destroyed.
- A vegetable patch grown for the community was also trampled.

The Cherry Tree Youth Hub in Beverley, East Yorkshire, has been severely damaged by children as young as six. CCTV footage revealed the extent of the malicious vandalism, showing children destroying a donated ice hockey table and wrecking a vegetable patch. Jo Ramsay, the center manager, described the scene as heartbreaking, emphasizing the hard work and community effort invested in the hub, which was featured on DIY SOS in December 2025. The hub was closed for the Easter holidays when the incident occurred.
The damage is estimated to cost up to £2,000 to repair. Tony Henderson, youth hub manager, highlighted the sadness caused by the vandalism, as they aim for young people to feel ownership of the space. The destroyed vegetable patch was a source of fresh produce for the local community and for meals prepared at the youth hub, with surplus donated to a food pantry serving 150 families weekly. The compost bin was tipped over, and netting was broken.
While the children involved have reportedly been identified, the charity hopes to support and educate them rather than criminalize them. They aim to integrate these young people into their inclusive community and offer support. Humberside Police are aware of the incident and are conducting ongoing inquiries.
