Suspect Nabbed in Sacred Monument Defacement

A suspect has been taken into custody for the vandalism that occurred at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced on Friday that the individual will face two felony charges: depredation against property of the United States and destruction of veterans' memorials.

Pirro described the act as a "despicable attack on a sacred monument honoring the Americans who fought and died for our freedom." The offenses carry potential penalties of up to ten years in prison. The vandalism involved red paint and the message "Clean hands dirty $" applied to the memorial, an act described by the Veterans of Foreign Wars as an insult to veterans and their families.
