Bombay high court recently witnessed a dramatic scene as a litigant, Minder Gurmit Singh Thukral, attempted to throw her purse at Justice Madhav Jamdar. This occurred after an order was passed against her and her three children during a contempt petition hearing. Justice Jamdar noted in his order that Thukral's conduct was wholly inappropriate and amounted to contempt of court.
The case stemmed from an eviction decree executed in April 2025, following a 2009 suit. When the Thukrals re-entered the property after the decree, the landlord's family approached the high court. Justice Jamdar expressed satisfaction that the respondents' conduct interfered with the administration of justice.
The court appointed a receiver to take symbolic possession of the premises by Wednesday and physical possession if not handed over voluntarily. Following the court's decision, Thukral began crying and shouting and made an attempt to throw her purse at the judge, though she stopped herself. She submitted a written apology, but the judge questioned her behavior, emphasizing that court orders should be respected. Police were then called to escort Thukral from the courtroom, and the judge indicated that heavy costs and contempt proceedings would be initiated against her. The hearing concerning her conduct and that of the other respondents is scheduled for October 30.
