Hero Mom Survives Arson Attack by Jumping from Window

A woman's desperate escape from her burning home involved a harrowing jump from a first-floor window to flee her abusive husband. The victim, Emma Martin, was awoken by flames engulfing her property and, finding all exits blocked, made the perilous leap to safety. She sustained serious injuries, including a spinal fracture and complex leg fractures, from the fall.

Her estranged husband, Nicholas Martin, had doused the house in petrol and set it alight in a bid to kill her. This act occurred while he was on bail for previous domestic abuse charges, including a five-hour captivity incident. He had been stalking her for days before the near-fatal attack.

Following a trial, Nicholas Martin was convicted of attempted murder and assault. He received a 30-year prison sentence for the arson and attack. Emma Martin is now recovering with support, rebuilding her life after enduring extreme trauma and violence.
