A woman was rescued from a strangulation attempt in Palm Coast early Sunday morning, thanks to the intervention of a passing driver. The witness observed a man, later identified as Eulices Soto, with his hands around the victim's neck on the roadside. Deputies responded to the scene and found the victim distressed, with visible red marks around her neck and bleeding.
The victim recounted that the assault occurred after an argument with Soto. She stated she was unable to breathe for several seconds during the attack. Soto, who was found to have a knife in his pocket, was arrested.
Sheriff Rick Staly commended the witness, emphasizing the severity of strangulation. Soto was charged with domestic battery by strangulation and later released on a $35,000 bond. Records indicate Soto had recently completed a 17½-year sentence for federal heroin trafficking charges.
