A distressing discovery was made in Bahuti village, Mauganj district, where a woman living alone was found murdered. The victim, Uma Singh, was found inside a locked room with her hands and legs tied and her mouth gagged, a circumstance that prevented her from calling for help. Neighbours alerted authorities after noticing her house had been closed for an unusual length of time.
Investigators from a forensic science laboratory and fingerprint experts have meticulously examined the crime scene, collecting crucial evidence. The post-mortem examination confirmed that the cause of death was suffocation. Police are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry, considering robbery, personal disputes, and the possibility that the scene was staged to mislead the investigation. Uma Singh had recently returned to her village and was residing alone in her old house since May 2.
Authorities have registered a case against unidentified individuals and are interviewing people known to the victim. The sub-divisional officer of police, Sachi Pathak, stated that technical analysis of call detail records and other data is underway. Further clarity on the motive is expected upon receipt of the full post-mortem report, as no immediate evidence of robbery was found.
