A woman, in her early 50s, has been found to have fabricated two pregnancies and claimed she sold the non-existent babies for £500 each. The deception, which lasted approximately three years, involved convincing her partner, in his 30s, that she had given birth. He reported feeling her pregnant stomach and was sent images and ultrasounds of the supposed children.
The elaborate ruse was revealed in court when the woman admitted to the deceit as a revenge plot, alleging her partner had abused her and her son. The High Court judge, Mrs Justice Judd, confirmed there was no record of the babies' existence, deeming the behavior cruel. The woman cited being menopausal as proof she could not have been pregnant.
The man was unaware of the deception until he was arrested and held for several months following a police call by the woman, who falsely claimed assault. During his detention, she continued the charade, sending him photos and updates about the supposed first child. The second child's supposed birth was planned for August 2024, even after the couple had separated.
To further convince others, the woman played a YouTube video of a crying baby in a voice message to her partner's mother. Bank statements also showed her visiting a tanning shop on the day the first child was allegedly due. The judge condemned the woman's actions, which led the man and his mother to believe they had children and grandchildren.
