26 Mar
Summary
- Woman convicted of manslaughter and unlicensed medical practice.
- Procedure involved illegal silicone injections for buttocks enhancement.

Vivian Alexandra Gomez, 50, has been convicted by a jury in San Mateo County for her role in a fatal illegal silicone injection procedure. The conviction includes felony involuntary manslaughter and practicing medicine without a valid license, which resulted in the death of Christina Ashten Gourkani.
Gomez traveled from Florida to the Bay Area in April 2023 to meet Gourkani, a model seeking buttocks enhancement. The procedure took place at a Burlingame hotel, where Gourkani received at least two injections. Shortly after, she experienced distress, including convulsions, and died the following day from respiratory failure and a pulmonary embolism.
Gomez fled back to Florida after the incident but was later arrested and extradited to California. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has previously warned against silicone injections due to severe health risks, including death.
