ICE Arrests Woman Post-Green Card Interview, Denies Care
7 Mar
Summary
- Woman arrested after green card interview despite pending application.
- Detained diabetic was allegedly denied water and critical medication.
- Case terminated, woman granted legal status after ordeal.

In November 2025, Hanne Daguman was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents immediately following her green card interview in San Diego, California. Despite being in the U.S. legally and having a pending green card application under INA § 245(a), she was detained. Her husband, Joshua Daguman, expressed his shock and distress over her arrest.
Daguman, a Type 1 diabetic, recounted severe mistreatment during her detention at the Otay Mesa Detention Center. She claims she was denied water for nearly 12 hours and was not immediately given access to her required insulin. Her blood sugar levels reportedly soared to dangerous highs, causing her to black out multiple times.
Despite DHS claims of providing comprehensive medical care, Daguman stated she received inconsistent insulin dosages and was placed in medical isolation. She lost 10 pounds in nine days due to the carbohydrate-heavy food and lack of proper medical management. She experienced infections and severe hyperglycemia symptoms.
Released on November 25, 2025, with an ankle monitor, Daguman's case was ultimately terminated, and she was granted legal status in the U.S. The ordeal has left her with ongoing physical and psychological health issues, including depression and PTSD, but she has become an advocate on social media.
She continues to advocate for humane treatment in detention, stating that while visa overstays may have consequences, no one should face life-threatening conditions or long-term harm.
