- Newborn baby's death blamed on woman's 'black magic'
- Relative and others attacked woman, demanding she perform rituals
On October 5, 2025, a 34-year-old woman named Suman Devi was the victim of a brutal assault in Bhagalpur, India. According to the police, Suman's distant relative, Dhuni Paswan, accused her of practicing witchcraft and blamed her for the death of a newborn baby in their village.
The incident occurred after Chanda Devi, Dhuni's daughter, gave birth to a baby boy about a week ago. The infant was reportedly suffering from jaundice and tragically passed away around 11 pm on October 4, 2025. Following the child's death, Suman was labeled a witch and held responsible for the tragedy.
In the early hours of October 5, 2025, Dhuni and several others reached Suman's house and demanded that she perform rituals to revive the deceased baby using her "black magic." When Suman refused, they severely assaulted her. Suman's husband, Guddu Paswan, informed the police and later admitted her to the hospital for treatment.
The Sanhoula police station has launched an investigation into the incident, and Dhuni Paswan and four other accomplices have been named in the FIR (First Information Report) filed by Guddu. The local residents are being questioned to gather more information about the attack.
